Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern
Melissa is a restoration specialist. She believes that each session is an opportunity to transform the deepest, darkest hurts into hope and freedom. Melissa welcomes individuals, families, teens and children. She allows the client to set the pace for their healing and fosters a strong therapeutic alliance. Operating from her own personal experience as a young adult with severe depression, anger and rebellion, cutting/self-harm, suicide attempts, addictions, co-dependency, and toxic/broken relationships, Melissa understands pain, healing and moving forward. She gained insight and passion for helping others heal after spending 10 months within an intensive inpatient setting.
Therapeutic goals include: Facing past hurts, treating the family and significant relationships, learning to protect self with boundaries, replacing old thought patterns and beliefs with a new hope-filled belief system, forming a new positive identity, gaining self-worth and embracing self-care.
Melissa completed her Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a minor in Biblical Studies at Toccoa Falls College. She spent three years in Africa and Jerusalem where she formed support groups for expatriated women. She then completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and has worked with 500+ patients and families within the Brevard Crisis Stabilization Unit.
Melissa feels that she is called to help others restore the brokenness and embrace the life for which they long. “Sometimes you don’t realize the weight of something you’ve been carrying until you feel the weight of its release” ~Unknown
