This is the week of Thanksgiving and I have been on this planet for 63 of them, most of which, I’m pleased to say, I remember. As I reflect on all the things for which I am thankful, I am reminded of the necessity to live a thankful life. There certainly are events, people and realities in my life that are distractors… joy stealers. And if I let them, they will indeed lead me from the peace of living a thankful life.
A couple of years ago I was encouraged to read a book that encouraged me to live a life of thanksgiving: 1,000 Gifts by Ann Voskamp. The book is amazing. It chronicles the life of woman who learns to give thanks in all things, and in doing so finds incredible beauty in everyday life. Tasks become journeys of discovery instead of mundane duties, and it is all accomplished with the moment by moment awareness of the gifts that we have been given by a loving and compassionate Creator.
My encouragement to you, and my Thanksgiving gift, is to encourage you to read and digest this beautiful book. And let’s make Thanksgiving a holiday we celebrate daily.
