“Have you ever considered becoming a therapist?” a mentor asked Scotty at a dinner shortly after he and his wife returned from their honeymoon. “I think you would be good at it.” Everything seemed to click in that moment and he had difficulty concentrating for the rest of the meal, eager to return home and research educational programs. The research soon turned into a therapeutic journey of healing as Scotty entered therapy himself to engage his life’s story and finally make sense of his anxiety and depression. Finding relief in counseling only reinforced his desire to become a therapist and help others engage their stories as well.
While working full time and raising a family, Scotty completed a Bachelors in Psychology and then attended Reformed Theological Seminary to complete an MA in Counseling. After years of working with couples almost exclusively, Scotty is now widening his focus to work with problematic sexual behavior and sexual addiction.
In addition to his counseling work, for the last 25 years Scotty has worked at Northland Church in Longwood as a staff musician and weekend worship service planner.
Besides spending time with Kristen, his wife of nearly 20 years and their four children, Scotty enjoys playing and listening to music, books and binge-worthy, serialized television.
